Top 5 Summer Reads

Another Top 5 and today’s is Top 5 Summer Reads, the below are some I have read, and other’s I’m probably going to take on holiday with me. Looking up Summer Reads showed results that weren’t my kinda thing… ‘picked up at the airport on the way‘ or ‘the latest John Grisham/Christina Lauren pick‘. Earlier this year I decided to take The Priory Of The Orange Tree on holiday with me, however as a mood reader, ya girl needs options. So below are a few of mine πŸ˜‰

This idea was originally created byΒ Mandy @Devouring BooksΒ big thanks to Mandy for hosting and introducing me to so many other book bloggers and this tag! Please see the September prompts below.

Grace & Fury by Tracey Banghart

Grace & Fury

Set in a Mediterranean-esque world the Grace & Fury duology gives off some serious summer vibes. I received the first book in a Fairyloot, and during my June reading slump of ’18 πŸ˜‰ this book ripped me totally out of it! Fast paced, twisty and some great suspenseful moments, following Nomi and Serina’s journey is the perfect summer read.

These Rebel Waves by Sara Raasch

rebel waves

Pirates, sea, sand and adventures, super summer reading and with the conclusion releasing later this month, I am hoping it gets to me soon so it can come with me on my beach holiday! A land on the brink of full scale war, the only people that can prevent it, are a pirate, a soldier with an affinity for herbal medicine and the prince. Quippy dialogue, fun adventure and an ending that will make you desperate for more These Rebel Waves is an excellent addition to your beach blanket.

Other Words For Smoke by Sarah Maria GriffinΒ

I love this author and am yet to have read anything by her, I saw a recent Instagram post from her suggesting that Other Words For Smoke is a summer read as it is set in a particularly hot summer. I heard there were witches and after reading the teaser, I am desperate to get on a plane and read this for the flight. I won’t give a breakdown as I don’t actually know and want to keep it that way!

Shadow Fall Series by C.C. Hunter

shadow falls

I loved this series! Set in summer camp, at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, witches and fairies train side by sideβ€”learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world. We follow Kylie as her mum sends her there after being caught at a party. These are cheesy, but so much fun and really easy reads. I really loved them!

The Priory Of The Orange Tree by Samantha ShannonΒ

As said above, this is the book I am taking on holiday (with others) but as it is an absolute tome, I thought I would take other books. LGBT, dragons, high fantasy and I believe assassins… don’t quote me on that! I also have to say I get severe summer vibes from the dust jacket. That orange colour is so warming, could be that it’s fire… probably not though.

  1. Grace and Fury is one book that I have wanted to read since it came out. I got a copy for my birthday, but still haven’t gotten around to reading it! I also have Priory and These Rebel Waves on my TBR, but have yet to get to either and probably won’t any time soon. I did read the Shadow Fall series a long time ago, I got the trilogy in one book and then the second three in another book. I loved it! I wish you luck with Priory because it’s huge, but sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you go on a trip! So glad to have you every week! I’m actually really looking forward to next week’s topic because there are a bunch of space books that are gems on my TBR but I typically avoid space books for no good reason and it’s going to be fun to pull out all the titles that I’ve been avoiding even though they look amazing.
